Romy,
AntwortenLöschenAs a huge fan of good coffee, so thanks much for the names and dining recommendations! Shall file it for any trip I might make to Vienna! Could you ask your friend one question?
I am in love with what the French call "cafe creme"--(sorry about the lack of French vowels!) It's made with espresso and steamed cream. Do they make that in Vienna and what is its name?
I am sipping one right now, made from my home espresso machine...although I'm not in Paris, it is still DELICIOUS!
The closest, I think, would be Brauner- espresso with cream.
AntwortenLöschenOr the melange- half espresso, half hot milk, served with milk foam. All of the coffee houses offer different things, some very traditional, others a mix of things. The ones in areas where tourists are numerous have a very much more varied menu.
Good for a summer afternoon is Wiener Eiskaffee- vanilla ice cream with cold espresso and a lot of whipped cream. And of course, the pastry and cake are to die for!! Hawelka at 10:00 at night for the Buchteln hot out of the oven. :-)

Vienna is the worlds capital for sweets! ;-)
AntwortenLöschen... and Andreas is renowned for his sweet tooth ! Out of the list, Braunerhof is my fave as it's never touristy. It also has a sort of dusty, beloved old ambience to it. Landtmans is fun because if you sit outside with a coffee and torte the cheeky birds swoop down near your table and wait for tidbits. Griensteidl is also good for spotting an Oberbereiter relaxing ! And lets not forget the coffee available at the SRS, where they also do a very tasty and filling salad bowl ;-) It is very hard to find a tasteless coffee in Vienna.....btw, the ice cream Strudel at the Schoenbrunn is to die for !
AntwortenLöschenKaren, don't forget the ice cream in Tuchlauben! ;-)
AntwortenLöschenHeisse liebe baby !!! ha ha ha
