  1. Again the prove that women did not only ride in side saddle in those times! But it remains very rare!
By the way: Marie Antoinette was a Habsburg, born in Vienna as daughter of the famous Empress Maria Theresia.

  2. Rare and very scandalous! For Marie (and Catherine) such action fed the flames of libel against them.

Marie Antionette was known to go riding astride with her husband's grandfather, Louis XV, and this portrait of her was modeled after one of Louis XIV.

(Yes, Marie was said to have had the "Hapsburg jaw." But I should think she inherited a fine sense of horsemanship!)

  3. I rad the novel "Marie Antoinette" from Stefan Zweig. It became one of my favorite books!
