Andreas,
In the part of the book I posted, "What Horses for the Cavalry". the author describes two different Levades done in Vienna, a "high" one and a "low" one. Are the two still done or has the school changed to one? If it has changed, which one is done now?

The high levade is called a pesade and is performed with the horse's body at a 45 degree angle. It was the original form of the air.
AntwortenLöschenThe levade was developed much later and is performed at a 30 degree angle.
I believe the pesade is still used as the starting point for the courbette. I do not recall seeing it used otherwise.
Stallions learning the Levade do the Pesade if they are not yet strong enough to sit on their haunches, and Courbetteurs.
AntwortenLöschenThe Levade seems impossibly hard for a horse to do! And then to add a rider !! I can see why you say it is the hardest of the airs.
