  3. It's always been one of my favorities too. Reproductions hang in my barn and office.

Painted in oil on canvas by Julius von Blaas in 1890. The painting portrays actual people and horses of the day! Those that I know about are in the foreground from left to right: Master of Horse Prince Emerich Thurn and Taxis who prompts a horse to execute capriole between the pillars; First Chief Rider Franz Gebhardt, holding a brown which is executing piaffe; courbette under a rider; piaffe under Rider K. Wihofsky; brown executing a pirouette.

In the background (left side), there is a chestnut turning grey which seems to be executing a pirouette. Background right, a gray doing what appears to be a pesade (an air above the ground similar to levade but the front is raised slightly higher) or perhaps the beginning of a courbette.

  4. John,

Your encyclopedic mind always amazes me!! Thanks for sharing all the details--it's always so wonderful to learn more about the fabulous history of the SRS!
