It set me off, yet again to see if I could find internet reference to the disbanded Bana Stud in Hungary where Ragyogo1's dam was rescued from & brought to the UK &/or more information other than her pedigree blood line chart from her Studbook ,,, & much to my suprise - I did - http://www.hedstrandslipizzaner.com/13.html
12(2436) BANA SIGLAVY-9
2356 Conversano Rita is Ragyogo1's G. G .dam - 1300 Siglavy Capriola VIII-7 is her grand sire on her dams side - I've noted other connections.
If anyone has links &/or information about the closed Bana Stud in Hungary, I'd be most interested to learn more about it.
The studfarm Bana was located in the Komárom-Esztergom area, in the northwest of Hungary. (The highway Vienna-Budapest is crossing this county), not far away from the large and famous stud Bábolna. It was started already in the mid-twenties, as a cooperative farmer initiative, in order to breed good horses for agricultural purposes, based on Lipizzaner blood. Some of them were -what we call now - purebred. But some of them were simply crossings. The Lipizzaners of the founding population were bought in the neighboring state stud Bábolna.
AntwortenLöschenDuring the following decades mostly breeding stallions of Bábolna (and later Szilvasvarad) were used. But also some stallions from their own breeding.
After the 2nd World war, the stud became a real cooperative institution, organized according to communist standards. The breeding purpose remained a large and strong harness type, for light agricultural work and transportation. Since the 70's the withers-heights increased enormous, up to 1.70m (16.3 hands), which is very rare (and not desirable) for Lipizzaners. The horses mostly lacked in nobleness and riding skills, but were very hard and healthy.
After the political change in Hungary, the cooperative principal of this kind of institutions was discarded. The studfarm was dissolved in 1991-1992. The breedingstock was sold. All horses became private property. In the present studbook of the Hungarian Lipizzaner Breeding Association (see www.lipicailo.hu ) a very large number of descendants of the Bana-stock can be found.
Atjanh,
AntwortenLöschenThank so much for posting this! One of the great benefits of Andrea's blog/site/group is how much great information is posted...your post is one of those! It makes me realize how much I have to learn about the history of the various stud farms. I have copied your post and tabled it to the "must learn more" folder on my laptop!

Also, a thank you to halkynuk for the great link!
AntwortenLöschenoh! Atjanh,
AntwortenLöschenThank you so much for sharing such a weath of information which as you see other members appreciate too!
I was aware that Lipizzaners are noted for their driving abilities.
For various reasons since Ragyogo1 has been with me, I've often wondered if she has been used as a driving horse in her past.
Now I read your information I am now wondering if, through my past experience as groom at local horse driving club level if she so willingly accepts things & actions that an experience driving horse does & approaches her roadwork in the same way, if this is due to her Hungarian bloodlines.
Sadly, from research I have done, I see it is not only the Hungarian Lipizanners that have been bred & pushed up to heights of 1.70m (16.3hands) - IMHO so very, very sad.
Thank you also, so much for sharing the link to the Hungarian Lipizzaner Breeding Association website - www.lipicailo.hu - whilst in all honesty, I do not understand a word of the language, I have spent enjoyable time looking at the list of Bana-stock decendants & the pictures, in particular the ones of the driving Lippis in traditional Hungarian harness.
Since posting my enquiry regarding the Bana stud, I have received a message from one of our members & our dear friend, regarding Ragyogo1's pedigree:-
",,, Jose,
Ragyogo1 has the entire kit and kaboodle in her, ALL THE SIX STALLION BLOODLINES !!!
Extra carrots for her from .... next visit !!!"
Perhaps it is as a consequence of Ragyogo! having such a wealth of Lipizzan bloodlines that IMHO she could not be judged to lack in nobleness & riding skills - due to her "imperialness" even in the first year she came to live here, I affectionately began to call her HRH Princess Rags! with which everyone agrees, even now.
