Mrs Kirsch from Germany claims that they have a Lipizzaner filly, recently born, which is a piebald. With the grey factor however (so she will turn white), but nevertheless.... I am very curious: is it just a lot of white signs, or really a piebald.... ??? Their marefamily (Rava) earlier gave strange color varieties, like a middle brown with 2 blue eyes!
If you find out any more on this piebald filly, would you please let me know? I was recently researching the genetics of the tobiano gene, and would like to know if this filly truly exhibits. Feel free to send me an IM, and I'll forward my e-mail.
Whoops, that is a question! I will have to look into the original imperial studbooks for that specific information. But definitely somewhere at the end of the 19th century. The last piebalds were bred for Empress Elisabeth (Sisi). She died in 1898.
I just discovered the last piebald Lipizzaner stallion in the SRS: Pluto Lina, born in Lippiza 1913.
His dam was the piebald Lina (Lippiza, 1899). Her tobiano robe can be explained by her pedigree. The English crossbred `Dolly´ inherited her robe. (She came in Lippiza in 1835). All piebald horses, which were used in the harness for Empress Elisabeth in the 2nd half of the 19th century were descended from her.
Pluto Lina was sold around 1920 by the SRS, and purchased by a German, who used him for his (non-Lipizzan) piebald breeding.
Sorry, six Lipizzans ;-)
AntwortenLöschenI love driving horses!! I haven't done a lot of it, but I have a HUGE grin on my face the whole time!!
AntwortenLöschenWow, never see that they drive six-in-hand like this. But it's very beautiful.
AntwortenLöschenLipizzaner-schecken are they there ?
Not anymore, the last "Schecke" at the SRS was in the 19th century.
