Money, Money, money... and Lipizzaner
The horse in front is Siglavy Thais, ridden and trained by Alojz Lah of Lipica.

As Andreas mentioned, Austra had a Lipizzaner performing levade on their 5 Schilling coin

And here is the kinebar (gold bar with a kind of laser made picture) of a Lipizzaner. It exists in 1g, 5g and 10g sizes:

Yes, I know that Sandi, we had a Levade in the old Austrian Schilling, the five Schilling coin.
AntwortenLöschenI didn't know that, I should look if I have some Schilling coins somewhere (I guess I should, just not sure where).
AntwortenLöschenI was surprised that you don't have anything like that on the Euro coins...
I guess the Austrian government got sick of the Spanish Riding School ;-) that's why! ;-)
AntwortenLöschenThat's so sad. In our case I guess the wanted to give us impression how much they "care" for lipizzaners.. :-/ But we like the coin. I like it at least ;-)
AntwortenLöschenRight!
AntwortenLöschenI like it as well and it shows how much the Lipizzan is an European horse, even that the breed is Habsburg-Austrian.
AntwortenLöschenVery emotional topic here in Slovenia, but you're right! :))
AntwortenLöschenI know, I discussed that on Wikipedia with someone I don't know in person but who is really knowledgeable when it comes to Lipizzan history.

Wow, really tough discussion you had there. I would love to say a word or two about this one day, but let's leave this thread to the coins :)
AntwortenLöschenA picture of that Schilling coin would be nice. And I will also try to find a golden bar with Lipizzaner in Levade, it was issued by Münze Österreich not so long ago..
I found the Schilling coin and added it above :))
AntwortenLöschenAnd a gold bar, too :)
AntwortenLöschenThank you Sandi! The rider on the cion is First Chief Rider Gottlieb Polak. Colonel Podhajsky and Chief Rider Wahl learned from him.
AntwortenLöschenAndreas, thanks for this info!! I was wondering if this was any particular Rider or just a general image. Nice to know! I've read about Chief Rider Polak in Colonel Podhajsky's books and based on what Col. Podhajsky wrote and also based on the photos of him available, he truly was a master Rider. I like very much the inner peace of him as well as his horses on those photos I've seen. Very peaceful and very strong. Amazing!
AntwortenLöschenWell .... Podhajsky wasn't always honest and nice to Polak in "My horses a my Teachers". Pluto Theodorosta was Polaks stallion before he died on him. Podhajsky wrote that, when he took the horse over, he had to retrain him and the horse wasn't trained enough for his age. We say "Papier ist geduldig" here in Austria ;-)
AntwortenLöschenStimmt, Papier ist geduldig. And I do recall the lines about retraining P. Theodorosta.
AntwortenLöschenI may have mixed things, it's been long time ago since I read My horses, My teachers. However you're are not the first one telling me that Podhajsky wasn't always honest. I heared that Chief Rider Wahl supposedly told the same about him and as far as I know it is also not really true what Podhajsky wrote in My dancing white Horses about our stud employees from Lipica who stayed with horses in Hostau at the end of WWII when all Lipizzaners were being rescued..
But for some reason I recall that he mentioned how he asked Polak to help him with a strong minded warmblood horse Otto and mentiones he was a true master. (Ok, later on he also says some stuff which in my opinion boosts hiw own ego, but nevertheless).
Anyway, I do believe Chief Rider Polak indeed was a master.
I am looking for this 20 c coin for years now ! It is very interesting to know which horse is on it !
AntwortenLöschenKelline, do I understand correctly that you are trying to get this coin? Or?
AntwortenLöschenYes you 're fully right !! Unfortunately, I never met it here in France ...
AntwortenLöschenI apologize for my english, this is not my mother tongue so it might be confusing sometimes

AntwortenLöschenI just bought one of each on eBay. I also have a couple of the Bosnia Lipizzaner coins. Have you seen those ones?
AntwortenLöschenEileen

AntwortenLöschenI can't make out the stamp.
Eileen
Eileen, I belive it is the right Kinebar. And no, I haven't seen the bosnian coin - I didn't even know they have a lipizzan coin in Bosnia. Is it a regular issue coin or a special edition? Would be nice to post a picture here, though :)
AntwortenLöschenThere are three Bosian coins for sale on eBay right now: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=bosnia+lipizzaner&_sacat=0&_odkw=lipizzaner&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
AntwortenLöschenI'll upload a picture to the photo gallery and maybe Sandi can add it to her post?
Man, I wish I had the money to bid on that kinebar!
Thanks for the hint :)
