Andreas, I just cannot resist this, How is his Courbette, Levade and Capriole? I bet they are pretty nice. But the Passage and between the Pillars might still need some work.......
I just could not resist. To bad you could not get a small saddle and teach him, BUT then I know it would look like a circus.
I believe you are correct. I looked up the name and card number lip81 is a match to this only taken after a change in stride. Same background in both photos. You don't see that very often.
This black and white foto was taken August 18, 2009.
I don't know when your pic of First Chief Rider Kottas and Chief Rider Eder was taken, but maybe when Hausi is back home, he can give us a date for it.
No, this is not Colonel Hazslinszky. He isn't another known external student of the SRS either, which mostly were military officers in those times. This man was apparently a civilian. Due to the protocol, military riders were always supposed to wear their uniform.
I have seen another picture of this rider before, but I do not have the faintest idea either who he may be. The picture must be taken somewhere in the '20-ies or begin '30-ies.
There is one clue though: in those times there was a civil riding school in Vienna. I once saw a vague picture of the director, who was trained in the SRS. There are some similarities with the man on this picture!
My suggestion to Andreas: across the entrance of the SRS under the Michaelerkuppel, the "Dokumentationszentrum für altösterreichische Pferderassen" has its office (Batthyanystiege). The vice president of this society is Mr. Hans Brabenetz, a very famous Austrian hippologist. Please show him this picture! He might know who this rider is!
Thank you Atjanh for all your help. I have one more photo coming. Is there someone I can write at Lipica who might remember the name of the Stallion. I tried the URL from Romy and all of them bounced.

left horse under Igor Maver is (i think) Favory Canissa XXII, now property of her Majesty the Queen Elisabeth II, but the horse is still in Lipica. Igor was competing at WEG 2006 with this horse.
Romy said "Yes, you can tell by the stripe on his bicorne. C.Isabella is the horse he qualified for Rider on."
Correct. My wife and I saw Asst Rider Hausberger and C. Isabella perform one of there very first Quadrilles together on September 23 1992 - a Wednesday evening performance. Herr H. was promoted to Rider soon after that. We returned to Vienna in 1997 and by then Rider Hausberger and Isabella were already performing the Long Rein solo. It is no exaggeration to say that Isabella was great. The first time we saw him do the long rein solo... I have no adequate words to describe it! He was supple (very difficult on long reins!), did beautiful pirouettes - the first time I saw double canter pirouettes on the long rein - remarkable piaffe and passage. Afterwards, I wrote a letter to Dr Ouhlela praising Rider Hausberger's work with Isabella. And I had not met Andreas at that time! ;-) I was lucky enough to see them again in 2001 during Morning Training. If I remember correctly, Isabella also did Levade in hand during performances but I don't recall seeing him myself.
General Patton, a host of American officers, and troops of the 328th Regiment, 26th Infantry Division, watch a performance of the Lipizzaner stallions on August 21, 1945. (Photo from National Archives)
These foto's were taken by PFC Frank Wayne Martin, who served in the 328th regiment of the 26th Yankee Division in the Third Army. They are 'backstage' foto's of the performance for Gen Patton. PFC Martin was assigned to guard the riders.
The last and most beautiful carrousel was in 1894, under the direction of Prince Rudolph of Lichtenstein. This represented the arrival in Vienna of Karl IV, with his bride, Elizabeth Christin of Spain.
The first picture of this item (the levade under OB Hubert Eichinger) could be 324 Siglavy V Africa-7. I do not have any further pictures of him in my archive.

Interesting picture! I'd never seen it before! Lipizzaner piebalds yes, but not this one.
No, Pluto Lina had no progeny. He was not used as a breeding stallion.
The history behind these piebalds within the Lipizzan breed was the habit of Empress Elisabeth ("Sisi") to use piebalds for her carriages. They were specially bred for her in the Imperial studfarm Lippiza. The mare Lina (dam to Pluto Lina) was the very last piebald brood mare in Lippiza.
According to our present breeding rules they would not be considered as purebred Lipizzaner. The piebald variety was brought into the breed by a mare without a known genealogical background, and definitely not Iberian or Arabian. But well..... who are we now..... in those times it was the Emperor who decided it was a "Lippizaner " or not.... ;-)
Mr. Ernest Bachinger I hope I spelled that right. I was writing a lady at Piber and Mr. Bachinger was also there. Now I have heard he is in Vienna, and I cannot reach him. He was very helpful on the older photos.
PFC Martin was assigned to "guard" the riders because technically, at that time, they were "the enemy", associated with the German army. Though I don't think the Americans really felt they were a threat. ;-)
These foto's are the only ones that exist of the back stage scenes. No one was allowed to take foto's except the "official" army photographers. PFC Martin hid his camera under his shirt. Lucky for us!
Time for a new album ;-))
