I don't know what you found, but on that web site a few weeks ago, I found a film from 1964 of the Spanish Riding School American tour and a presentation of a gift horse during a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Amazing!
How do you know this was filmed in London? The website says that the location is unknown. Of course, it also speculates that it was probably at the SRS in Vienna but I can tel you that it was NOT at the SRS riding hall in the Hofburg.
It was amusing that the website tries to correct the paperwork which says it was Australian Horsemen! I thought this was an uncommon mistake but my last trip to Salzburg taught me that it is very common! It is so common that, in the Salzburg souvenir shops, I saw T-shirts which said
AUSTRIA
NO KANGAROOS
The T-shirts also had a logo similar to some traffic signs - a kangaroo inside a red circle with a digaonal line through the kangaroo
Yes, I've seen those t-shirts - they always give me a hoot! I wonder how they arrived at "Australian" for the film - the bicorne hats are hardly the typical bush hat!
I thought this clip was filmed in London because I have seen still photographs taken in this setting with Wenzel Zrust and Ernst Lindenbauer The still photos (some were in the old Lipizzaner museum) were labelled as being taken during the London tour in the late 1920s, so it seems likely this clip was filmed at the same time. The riding hall in the film also looks rather like Olympia, a venue I've visited for horse shows in London. It's certainly not Vienna - no steel girders in the Winterreitschule :-)
The beautiful eagerness of these dear stallions is awesome. Such a privilege to see. I'd love to know who they are, and their riders. Please! And thankyou!
