Andreas, you just talked to me about the old brown stallion Siglavy Perla and his son Siglavy Pastime. Two colts of S. Pastime just "arrived on earth" and - as all his foals did until today - they show the sigfnificant points of their grandfather. It is really fascinating. One of this foals is from a mare 75% Piber, 25% Lipica - the other mummy is 50% Topolcianky and 50% Fagaras.
forgotten. the left one at the age of 24 houres, the right one 6 houres old
AntwortenLöschencongratulations!
AntwortenLöschenBoth look magnificent! What's their name?
AntwortenLöschenthe left one is siglavy montenegra (montenegra = neapolitano X bornea from topol. x maestoso xxxix-17 from fagaras); the right one is siglavy stella ( stella = maestoso toscana from piber x amena-50; amena is a daughter from pluto troja and dubovina-XX).
AntwortenLöschenwith siglavy pastime we made a line-breeding back to the mare 54 perla. this mare is the mother of s- perla and the grandmother of 33 pastime. we did this because we wanted to consolidate the genes of one of the best mares piber ever had (our personal mind). we were very curious about the foals, but it worked anyway.
we tried different bloodlines, ugly (sorry) mares, evil (sorry again, no horse is evil in his mind- but you will get me) mares, long mares, short mares,,, and the result is always the same: the foals look great, they have characters like little angels (calm, gentle, nice, not rude, not stubborn, strong nervs, willing to learn and they love human beings right from the start). we are really really proud of our siglavy pastime and his babies - and of course of our work (if i am allowed to say so).
and i will update you abou the two years old mare (kl-s. pastime x kl-rigoletta), the half-sister of our/your ravesta. i am going to visite her in two weeks. she also looked great and has such a big big heart. when i brought her to state stud marbach for upbringing, she went out of rigoletta's box (5 month old) and followed me in the trailer without any look back.. "we are going? you are going with me? okay, here we go"- i never ever had such an experience with a foal direclty taken from mom's side. never ever!!.
AntwortenLöschenIlona, how do you name fillies? Are you doing it the traditional way?
AntwortenLöschensame way as piber does, yes. fllies get a traditional name of their mare family.
AntwortenLöschenBUT ... sometimes we have to find solutions. this happens f.e. with mares from hungary and romania. as you know they don't have special names for their mares. so we asked our breeders to rename horses from there (in our pedigrees are the original names listed behind the new names).
the solution is to start the name with the first letter of the real name. so a MAESTOSO-mare gets a name with M, a favory-mare one with F and so on.
ok, so you go back in the maternal line from the fifth to the eight generation and choose a name from there, right?
AntwortenLöschennormally breeders just choose any listed name they like from the mare family. a demand to choose a name from the fifth to the eight generation does not exist.
AntwortenLöschenok :-)
AntwortenLöschenDo you know the meanings of the names of the original foundation sires?
AntwortenLöscheni do not, no. maybe someone else does.
AntwortenLöscheni have only a "fantasy" for some names. a "maybe"-explanation.... nothing documented... TULIPAN (cz.) might mean TULIP. CONVERSANO and NEAPOLITANO should belong to the cities CONVERSANO and NEAPEL in italy.
but only wooly thoughts ^^
sorry
edited after andreas' posting for not confusing peppz over here. (two more fantasies lost *lol). ty andreas
Siglavy desends from Seqlawi: In Arabic language it means refining. These type of horses refines the ground with their hooves.
AntwortenLöschenIncitato is from Incitatus: was the favored horse of Roman emperor Caligula. Its name is a Latin adjective meaning "swift" or "at full gallop".
This is what Atjan Hop wrote in a previous blog:
AntwortenLöschenIn the 19th century, Austro-Hungarian officers were sent to Arabia, in order to purchase the finest Arabian horses which they could find. These horses were supposed to improve the horse breeding in the Habsburg empire. All these horses can still be found in the pedigrees of the famous horse races of Middle-Europe, like the Lipizzaner, the Shagya-arabian, the Gidran, and of course the pure Arabian breed.
Not only the large Austro-Hungarian state and military studs, like Mezöhegyes, Radautz, Bábolna and Piber received these pure Arabian horses, but also the imperial stud of Lippiza.
As horsebreeding was registered very properly in the 19th century, we can still trace those original Arabian horses easily in the original studbooks of all those studs. Interesting fact is that their names all refer to those mythic horses as Andreas described above. But the spelling of those original Arabian names were taken over phonetically into German. And therefore we still can find in those pedigrees horse like:
Siglavy (Seqlawi)
Koheilan (Kehailan)
Monaghie (Maanagi)
O'Bajan (Abeeyan)
Hamdani (..)
-Neapolitano indicates the origin of the founding stallion: the (Habsburg) kingdom of Naples-Sicily. (Southern Italy)
AntwortenLöschen-Conversano indicates the owner of the stud in Southern Italy, (Count Conversano), where Count Kaunitz purchased this stallion, and offered him to the imperial family in Vienna.
-Maestoso (in ancient studbooks also spelled as Majestoso): the majestic one.
-Favory: according to some literature a decomposition of the Spanish name "Favorito" - a common name for baroque stallions
-Pluto: the Roman god of the underworld.
-Siglavy (Seqlawi)- see above
-Incitato (Incitatus) - see above
-Tulipan (Tulip) - see above
