Neapolitano Aga

Neapolitano Aga did his first performance on saturday, 19. December 2009. He is nine years old and I ride him since four years. We did the school quadrille together. I was very pleased with the ride, though he was a bit nervous at the beginning. He did the walk entrance in passage because he was so exited about the full light and the huge crowd. This stallion likes to do Passage, it's his pace :-)
N. Aga's sire is N. Malina, I rode him too. He did the school quadrille as well.

  2. awww, it is SO nice to hear a story like that from you :). And yes, a very proud moment indeed! I love that you write about him passaging instead of walking due to some nerves!! All the best for the both of you in future performances!!

  3. Congratulations! You "delivered" again, in the never ending range of stallions for the SRS ;-)

What I like about Neapolitano Aga is his special background: his nobility combined with his genealogy - he is half Hungarian!

His dam is 89 Aga (a.k.a. Siglavy Capriola X-19), born in the Hungarian state stud Szilvásvárad. She was a daughter of the impressive Siglavy-Capriola X, and used as a broodmare in Piber for several years. (Andreas, I will send you a picture of this Hungarian stallion!)

His sire is the late Neapolitano Malina (out of the rare side branch N.Nima II - N.Navarra), former quadrille-stallion of Andreas. Good looking fellow, who died to young.... N.Malina´s dam was `62 Malina`, who was a half sister of ... Conversano Dagmar !

His maternal family is also very interesting: in literature known as `542 Hungarin´. This refers to the founding mare of this family: a mare born in the studfarm of the Hungarian Count Zsigmond Andrassy in 1790, which was purchased by the enormous Hungarian state stud farm Mezöhegyes.
(Mezöhegyes is the founding stud for the Hungarian Lipizzaner)

This mare ´542 Hungarin´ was probably baroque typed, as she was allocated into the Spanish herd in Mezöhegyes, and was bred to the Spanish stallion `Curioso´ in 1797. This resulted in the mare ´309 Curioso´ (Mezöhegyes, 1798), which was bred later to the Lipizzaner stallion `Majestoso´. Out of this combination came the mare ´35 Majestoso´ (1810). This mare was bred to the Spanish stallion `Marquese´, which resulted in ´314 Marquese´ (1816).

    ~Are you still with me?~

Hereafter this tribe developed with Lipizzaner stallions, with an exception of one Arabian stallion: Aga (born 1845), whose daughter `85 Aga´ (Mezöhegyes, 1856) was the source of the name of the dam of..... Andreas´ Neapolitano Aga - who was born 144 years later....

With the selling of 89 Aga, this mare family disappeared in Piber, but is still existing in Hungary. And a side branch appears in Bosnia-Hercegovina (the Vucijak-stud), with names like ´Sava´ and ´Pakra´.

    So nice... Lipizzaner history.... :-)

  5. Atjan, that is really fascinating! And of course, I am slightly biased towards Hungarian Lipizzaners... :-D

  6. Aga = آغا = Lord

    آغا is pronounced ara

It's not a female name, though nobody knew that when they named the mare long time ago.

The term "Aga" is actually from the Ottomans and was brought to the arabic world by the Ottomans.

  7. Andreas I know you are bursting with pride regarding Aga ! I have watched you work him for a few years now and I know he will go from strength to strength with you. Well done my dear friend.
...And to Atjan...thank you yet again for your incredible, encyclopaedical knowledge of the Lippi's. Please write a book Atjan. Please.....

  8. This Arabian stallion "Aga" was born in the famous royal Würtemberg stud of Weil in 1845.

"Aga" was a son of "Bairactar II" (Weil, 1829), and with that grandson of the famous Bairactar (Arabia, 1813)
The dam of "Aga" was "Tharma II (Weil 1833) [Sire: Selim - dam Tharma I)

Interesting of that stallion Selim (Weil 1828) was that his grandsire was.... SIGLAVY, yes the one and only founding sire, both of the Lipizzaner and (shagya-)arabian dynasty.

"Aga" went from Weil to the Hungarian stud Bábolna after 1855. In 1858 and 1859 he was stationed in Mezöhegyes. After this he returned to Bábolna. He was used there as breeding stallion until 1874 (at the age of 29!).

  9. Atjan, I second Karen's request. Write us a book! Or in the very least, please copy your notes for us! ;-)

    AntwortenLöschen
  10. Atjan, that's two of us now... you simply have to write the book !

    AntwortenLöschen
  11. In the meanwhile we could also combine and edit my various texts at H&D, I suppose... ;-)

The problem is, that I gathered so much information during the last 25 years..... and I have so little time to work it out.... And there is only one index of all these data.... inside my head...

Ok... it is really snowy here right now... I will wear a helmet, I promise! ;-)

  12. Yes, you must protect all that knowledge!!!

  13. Yes, please do! Certainly until you write that book. ^_~

(Time is always the rub now, isn't it?)

  14. Thank you all.... but please do not forget: THE item of this issue is...

Neapolitano Aga! I really like this stallion. He is so talented.

Within the breeding committee of Piber, we decided once, that only horses with an classical, imperial pedigree (i.e. direct lines towards the imperial stud of Lippiza) were allowed to be used as a breeding stallion. Because of N.Aga's Hungarian dam, he would be excluded for reproduction.

Andreas, what do you think, does N.Aga have the skills as "sire" and should Max make an exception? Otherwise only his half-brother N.Biserka II is left...

  15. It is so exciting and wonderful to see the result of years of working together.
N.Aga will have a very long, spectacular career. My congratulations to you both.

Give Aga a kiss on his beautiful, soft nose for me!

  16. I took this photo in September, of a horse I thought was Neapolitano Aga - though I may well be wrong! Anyway, the real Neapolitano Aga is a very lovely horse - I look forward to seeing him in performance!

Blast, stupid photo link doesn't work. Just click on "paeroa" above and the suspected Aga is in my photoalbums!

  17. Gut gemacht, Andreas! I first saw N. Aga in 2007. He impressed me a lot then. He seemed very mature (mentally) for a 7 year old. He was already beginning piaffe in the pillars. His passage was already impressive even then. I am glad to hear that he passed his "initiation test"! ;-)

  18. Andreas - I am also pleased that N. Aga made his SRS quadrille debut. After watching him for 3 weeks in 2007 I had no doubt that he had the talent to progress especially guided by his excellent trainer :-)! He has an interesting way of carrying his tail so it fans out behind him. It made him very easy to spot during Morgen Arbeit.
Atjan - Thanks for posting all the history behind N. Aga's breeding. Very interesting!!

  19. An exception? No, (though I dearly love this stallion) not with N. Aga. I would say that he is a good stallion but not good enough for passing on his genes.
In my opinion a good breeding stallion is a stallion with exceptional ride-ability, perfect exterior and exceptional pedigree.

  20. You must be very proud! Which column are you in?

  21. That's not an actual photo from the performance with Neapolitano Age, though I'm on this photo with Favory Dubovina. We are the second pair on the left hand side (front).
