  1. This is what Ines (from Piber) told me:
These datas were extremely difficult to find out, so we have just the riders.
All photos were taken in the "Sommerreitbahn" (summer- or outdoor- riding school) in Vienna. We guess that the decoration of the manes were just made for this shooting. It seems that there was an official foto shooting for postal cards.

    Greetings,

    Ines Hubinger

Romy I have a bunch of postcards real photo from 1927-30 with this decoration on the manes. I have not listed them yet but I will. Ermine has been helping me with the names of the horses.

  3. Hi, do you know the source of this picture? Is it from a book? Neat pic with the shadow. The rider's body seems to have the energy of weightlifter (except for his hands) yet his face seems to have the concentration of a chess player? Thanks for sharing.

  4. as i know, the artist made those drawigs in private order. at least they are in private ownership. some pictures have been taken and have been published as postcards. but no posters or reprints. i bought these cards in a print office in vienna.

  5. Alexander Pock was a famous (horse-)painter in those times in Austria. He made this series, as far as I know, privately. Or perhaps, as Rorella says, by private order. I once saw a picture, with him sitting in the corner of the Winterreitschule making sketches for these paintings.

  6. To anwser the original question: the manes were braided and decorated for gala-performances in the imperial times. Later it was done only by very special occasions. The only moment I saw it was in November 2007, during the opening parade of the performances of the 4 Ridingschools in Paris.

Perhaps Andreas can tell us more about the conditions when the SRS is using this gala-outfit for the stallions.

  12. I have these, others, on postcards and coasters. I believe it is a set. If I could figure how to add them to yours I would, or I can send them to you directly and you can add them to these.

  13. The artist is Alexander Pock 1871-1950. All my cards were printed in Austia. The paintings were done 1940, 1934, unknown, 1947, 1931.

  14. You can't add them to Romy's gallery, Romy is the admin for her folder, though you can send Romy your photos and she can post them in her (this) folder.

  15. So then, this special braiding is used only on very special occasions?

  17. They are very rare. The next one is in October 2009 (see calender), but not sure if the horses will be braided.
