Here is the last photo for now. These last 3 photos were taken at about the same time. Atjan was helpful with the Courbette photo. He believes the rider is Irbinger. I believe they are from the 1940's. Thanks to all for your help.
Wow! I even changed the name! Am I doing it right now? I played around with it all day yesterday, trying to figure this out. Thank you for your patience! I just purchased a very large collection of photos off of ebay. I can't wait to get them.
I don't know about pic number 1 but pic number 2 is the Master himself, Alois Podhajsky, with hmm well maybe.. Neapolitano Africa at Sankt Martin. Atjan will know the answer for sure. I hope we see the rest of the treasure trove Marcia.
You know I believe you are right. How could I have missed that! I don't remember N. Africa having such a flowing mane. The title of this card is Seitengang. I don't know what that means.
Marcia, its the amazing flared nostrils on this one... maybe Siglavy Brezovica. I have just compared it with others pictures in Podhajskys book The Lipizzanersand they are very similar.
This very well could be Siglavy Brezovica. He was kinda the Courbette Champ in the early 20-30's. His rider at that time was Head Rider Zrust. These photos might be older than I thought. I was just making a guess at the age. The front legs are nearly correct from the other photo I have of him. It looks to me, like he is coming down after the leap.
I have nothing on Rider Richowansky. He is not mentioned in any of my books. Was he with the school long? Can you give me a URL to read about him? Date? Thanks
Franz Rochowansky was a cavalry officer who joined the SRS in 1937. He became Oberbereiter in 1952. He was a very talented rider and trainer, and foreseen successor of Col. Podhajsky as director of the SRS. However due to a personal conflict with the same Col.Podhajsky, Rochowansky decided to leave the school in 1957.
First he started as dressage trainer in Holland (he was the trainer of the Dutch international dressage riding sisters Van Doorne), later he moved the the UK. There he died in 2001.

A postcard dated 1927. These two b/w cards might be the oldest cards I have. I purchased a bunch of cards on ebay and these were in the bunch. They are not as sharp so I wonder about the photographer at the time. Also the paper used is a matte paper. Most of the other photos from this time were on glossy. Perhaps the matte finish was not a good quality. The photos are very grainy But then again 1927 this was all new. I just love this old stuff!!! It's history.
This was a SRS-perfomance in the "Felsenrreitschule" of the former Archbishop's court stables in Salzburg, somewhere in the 20-ies. (I have to look for the precise date) The picture is not "photoshopped", just ancient.
I don't have this book. I wonder if I could find a copy in the US. Do they sell this book in Slovenija? Thank you for the help in looking up the stallion.
Ludwig Zeiner, pupil of Meixner. You cannot find his name in the SRS archives of the k.u.k. time ( deleted) He did work with Johan Neumayr in Berlin-Krampnitz until the end of WWII. There were also two Lipizzaner stallions performing in Germany during those turbulent times

Here are two photos that are nearly the same. One has been heavily air brushed. I think the horse is N. Adriana and the rider Gottlieb Polak. Date 1928. They are so very close. The photo must have been taken seconds apart.
Wow, you managed to upload Marcia! :-)
AntwortenLöschenYou shoul name the album "Spanische Hofreitschule Fotos IV"!

AntwortenLöschenI think I have seen this photo many times, I have gone through all my books and I can't find it. Does anybody have this photo?
AntwortenLöschenIt is (Chief)Rider Rochowansky
AntwortenLöschenDo you know the stallion?

AntwortenLöschenChief Rider Eder and Conversano Calcedona
AntwortenLöschenNo, Chief Rider Riegler is on Neapolitano Madar
AntwortenLöschenYou are completely right! I was too fast in my reaction. Sorry ! ;-)
AntwortenLöschenOberbereiter Gottlieb Polak, around 1930.
AntwortenLöschenI do not know the stallion. In these times he worked with several stallions on long reign.
I can not see his face completely, so I am not sure. I will look into this.
AntwortenLöschenWhere is this from Marcia?

AntwortenLöschenGreat stuff! Well done!
AntwortenLöschenThis is First Chief Rider Polak!
AntwortenLöschen330 Favory Dubovina II (Lipica, 1959)
AntwortenLöschenMaestoso Bonavoja-45 (Piber, 1967) - Founding stallion of the present Maestoso-line in Lipica.
AntwortenLöschenI can not see the face of the rider, but most likely he was Alojz Lah, (the trainer of M.Bonavoja)
I think the stallion is C. Bonavista.

AntwortenLöschenThe arcade-wall still exist, is part of the "Festspielhaus" in Salzburg, and used as partly outdoor theater. (See: http://www.salzburgerfestspiele.at/fotoservice/subcategoryid/130/archivyear/2012 )
Just a curiosity, nothing "official".
AntwortenLöschenOberbereiter Irbinger. I have to look for the stallion.
AntwortenLöschenOberbereiter Lindenbauer.
AntwortenLöschenMiran Mavec
AntwortenLöschenNever saw thet before ....
AntwortenLöschenI don't have this book. I wonder if I could find a copy in the US. Do they sell this book in Slovenija? Thank you for the help in looking up the stallion.
AntwortenLöschenThank you for helping me with the stallion.
AntwortenLöschenDo you know the stallion? How long has the rider been riding this stallion? If you know. Thanks !!
AntwortenLöschenThis is Favory Stornella IV in Piaffe 1943. I THINK that is Oberbereiter Lindenbauer on the ground.
AntwortenLöschenThis is the great Siglavy Brezovica. 1942. I just can't say enough about this stallion. Not sure of the handler.
AntwortenLöschenThis is C. Bonavista, Piroutte to left 1942. It looks like Lindenbauer riding.
AntwortenLöschenYes, it's Chief Rider Ernst Lindenbauer.
AntwortenLöschenFirst Chief Rider Polak
AntwortenLöschenChief Rider Lindenbauer
