These are the Photos from an album of Dr. Harald Hofmann (my grandfather), who was a good friend with Mr. Alfonz Pecovnik (chief rider and trainer in Lipica for many years) and a good rider, trainer and judge himself.
Alfonz Pecovnik and mare Thais XI. With this mare he qualified for the 1960 Olimpics in Rome, but since the sports federation in Belgrade didn't approve the cost, Alfonz had to stay at home.
This simple quadrille was supposed to be presented at the 1960 Olimpics in Rome, but due to financial reasons this never happened. Behind you can see the so called Abrihtunga (Abrichtung), the last stable built in Lipica under the monarchy, dated 1896. The mares in training used to be stabled here. Now horses for turist riding and some driving horses are stabled here.
Thais XI was a Lipizzaner mare, descended from the mare family Rebekka-Thais. This family is originally an Arabian line, crossed in the '20-ies into the Lipizzaner breed, and nowadays only used in Lipica. (and by private breeders, of course). This family delivers good sport and performance horses.
Correct, she was a Lipizzaner mare. Unfortunately I don't know which year Thais XI was born, but we can assume in late 1940's. This photo was taken in 1956 and she's not yet entirely white. At Lipica's official web site there is an info that in 1957 Mr. Peckovnik won Prix St.Georges in Vrba na Koroskem in Austria (Velden am Wörther See, Kärtnten, Austria).
The family Rebecca is new slovenian family, in Lipica and also in slovenian private breeding they use the name Thais. Unfortunately I can see more and more often that the familiy Rebecca is related to as a classical family, which is of course wrong. It is the only non-classical slovenian Lipizzaner mare family.
sitting at the table: Dr. Harald Hofmann and (i belive) Gen. Jaka Avsic. Standing in the middle behind I don't know (I knew, but have forgotten).
AntwortenLöschenChief Driver in Lipica was at that time a Russian, Mr. Skljarov. I am not sure, but I assume he is driving this carriage.
AntwortenLöschenOn this picture I also assume the driver is Mr. Skljarov. About the horses I unfortunately don't know.

Do you know what breed the mare was and how old at the time of the Olympics? Beautiful horse.
