I have been in Athens last week. It was a wonderful trip, except the day when I left at the airport.
Anyway.....
I spent a day in the Archaeological Museum in Athens. Very interesting!
I was most surprised to see spectacular antique horse equipment from 5th and 4th century BC.
Unbelievable how horses had to suffer in Xenophons (426 - 355 BC) time.
I'll post pictures soon!
Andreas
That is why Xenophon wrote his texts, I suppose..... ;-)
AntwortenLöschenI am looking forward to your report!

Well.... your pictures tell enough.... impressive.... Thank you for sharing this. Most interesting!
AntwortenLöschenNow we can understand, why these materials were also used in the Renaissance-times.... they had a "classical" example...
(Unfortunately I do know, that some of this "classical" torture equipment is still being used in some cultures...)
Nevertheless I would like to remark to all, that Xenophon himself did write interesting texts about proper horsemanship! So in every time area, there is hope ;-))

Hi Andreas! Thank you so much for the report. I found the pictures very interesting because I’m reading Xenophon and I was wondering if the drawings in the book were really real... and now this is the proof! Poor horses! Besides the” hard" bits. I found Xenophon very interesting and up-to-date in the way he writes about the concerns and care to the horse... but the concepts behind this “worries” are probably much different of the ones we have now! Very interesting thanks for sharing!
AntwortenLöschenAndreas,
AntwortenLöschenAfter seeing all this old-time torture ... What do SRS riders and trainers think of the use of gadgets in modern training ?
I am thinking of the "Pessoa system" which now is EVEN praised by judges/trainers here in England.
For what I see, it only does restrict the horse movement....
Thank you to reply when you find the time!
