(Re)new(ed) management in the Spanish Ridingschool

Last week was announced that Director Ernst Bachinger will retire from his duty as "Leiter der Reitbahn" of the Spanish Ridingschool in Vienna this month. After more than 20 years as a rider and trainer, and 6 years as director he will leave Vienna.

This position will not be continued within the SRS.  In stead of this, the duties of Mr.Bachinger will be divided among three well-known senior riders:

Oberbereiter Wolfgang Eder and Oberbereiter Andreas Hausberger will be responsible for the equestrian fulfillment of this old institution for Classical High School Dressage.  Mr. Eder will be granted with the title 1st Oberbereiter (with a renewed job description for this traditional position), Mr. Hausberger will be responsible for the training center in Heldenberg (northwest of Vienna)

Bereiter Herwig Radnetter will be appointed as administrative manager for all matters concerning the riding (which includes the riding schedules and preparation of tours)

Beside this, today the Supervisory Board of the SRS decided to renew the contract for present General Manager Mrs. Elisabeth Gürtler and Operational Manager Mr. Erwin Klissenbauer for another 5 years.

The SRS in Saumur: Le Printemps des écuyers 2011

Start:     Jun 10, '11 9:00p
End:     Jun 12, '11
Location:     Saumur-France
For the first time the Spanish Ridingschool will join the well known Gala Performance in Saumur "Le Printemps des écuyers".

Every year the famous french military ridingschool Cadre Noir in Saumur invites a traditional colleague institution for a combined gala performance. The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art (Jerez) and the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art (Lisbon/Queluz) participated already several times during this event.

Due to their own performance schedule, the Viennese Spanish Ridingschool never had the opportunity to join the "Printemps des écuyers" But 2011 will be different! According to the website of the Cadre Noir, the event will take place from June 10-12 in Saumur.

Request: Program USA-Tour 1950

Dear all,

A question from me to the H&D members: does anyone have (a copy of) the original program of the SRS-Tour 1950  (New York - Harrisburg - Toronto)  ??

For a publication, I am highly interested if  Conversano Bonavista (1925) and OB Ernst Lindenbauer were participating.

Thank you in advance!

Young stallions arrived in Vienna

Yesterday afternoon (January 21, 2010) eight young Lipizzaner stallions of the year 2006 arrived from the Austrian national stud Piber in Vienna.

According to the tradition they were brought in by the stud manager of Piber, Dr. Max Dobretsberger, and handed over to the leader of the SRS, Mr. Ernst Bachinger and stablemaster Mr. Johann Hamminger.

It concerns:

Maestoso Rustica-15
Maestoso Alea II-28
Maestoso Theodorosta I-29,   sire: Maestoso Bellamira (1982)

Conversano Bellamira II-16
Conversano Rubina-17
Conversano Bradamanta-27,   sire: Conversano Mantua (1978)

Favory Bonavia-23
Favory Trompeta-25,   sire: Favory Superba  (1990)

Interesting to mention is, that 2 of them were already born in February 2006. The "youngest" among them is born in June 2006. This proves [for those outthere who always may have believed, that it was a fairytale ;-)  ]  that indeed the Spanish Ridingschool in Vienna is starting to break their horses not earlier than with the age of  3,5 - 4 years !!

Please let us be aware of this ancient experience of this century old institution , and follow this example! Do not start too young with your horse !

SRS performance of the 4th of July 1946 in Wels (Austria)

On the 4th of July 1946 performed the Spanish Ridingschool especially in honor of the U.S. Army.

Place of action: the ridinghall of the Dragoons in Wels (Upper-Austria). This was the residence in exile of the Spanish Ridingschool from 1945 until their return to Vienna in 1955. Wels was located in the American zone within Austria, after WW II.

Since the famous performance of the Spanish Ridingschool for General Patton in St.Martin, May 1945, the U.S. Army took over the patronage of this ancient institution for the classical art of riding.

Please find a copy of the original program and enjoy ancient names of riders and Lipizzaner stallions!

The original document is owned by my dear friend, Mr. Jacques Pieterse, former trainee with the SRS in Wels and personal friend to Col. Alois Podhajsky.
